Another adventure by our favorite inappropriate superhero, this time he is much cruder than in the first two episodes. Including his many obscenities, sexual innuendos, expressive blood scenes, and the usual humor that keeps this film funny and interesting. Now the fun is just beginning as everything begins to fall apart for this wannabe hero and the world he lives in. This “B” rated character has now begun to challenge his right to join the “A list” and finally take his place as one of the Marvel greats.
Wade Wilson / Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) seems to have lost his true meaning in life. After being turned down by the Xmen he is now trying to join the Marvel team and he seems to be having no luck. But he is fortunate to still have all of his close friends nine to be exact; Peter Wisdom (Rob Delaney), a car salesman who is Wade’s friend and coworker, Dopinder (Karan Soni), a taxi driver, Blind Al (Leslie Uggams), blind elderly roommate, Vanessa Carlysle (Morena Baccarin), former fiancée, Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand), a teenage member of the X-Men with the mutant power to detonate atomic bursts from her body, Yukio (Shioli Kutsuna), Negasonic Teenage Warhead’s girlfriend and fellow X-Men member, Colossus (Stefan Kapičić as the voice of), a member of the X-Men with the mutant ability to transform his body into organic steel, Shatterstar (Lewis Tan), a member of X-Force, and Buck (Randal Reeder). Together life is moving along, but happiness is far off for Wade. He still misses his relationship with Vanessa and wants to prove to her he is the man/mutant she always loved.
With the death of Wolverine, Wade’s timeline seems to be disappearing. He is called to the Time Variance Authority (TVA) and is assigned a mission by Mr. Paradox (Matthew Macfadyen), a TVA agent overseeing the project, to locate another Wolverine to save his timeline. While transporting through each reality Deadpool comes up with the worst James “Logan” Howlett / Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) and now has to convince him he is a real hero. Before they both realize what has all occurred during their comical actions, they find themselves in the void, where they meet Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin), twin sister of Charles Xavier. Things get a little crazy from here as both Deadpool and Wolverine have to find a way to escape the void and save the timelines from ever existing.
Director Shawn Levy does a great job preserving the Deadpool theme and bringing us a story that keeps up with the past two installments. Levy presents fantastic action scenes, with excellent special effects, bloody fight scenes, hilarious antics that include the many different types of Deadpool characters, and of course the outlandish language that stays consistent with this interesting character. With the inclusion of plenty of cameos, and a deep dive into the multiverse and its different timelines, somehow Levy is able to keep the tale on target. Making things a little more challenging for his career Hugh transforms Wolverine into a lost super being, who adds his own amusing side marks throughout the narrative. With Reynolds also a part of the writing team, he is able to bring his “A” game to his comedic anecdotes in almost every situation. The rest of the cast did an excellent job keeping the story going and allowing for the clowning to not steal the film.
For the fans of Deadpool or even those who love bizarre crude films, this one is definitely for you, and it will not disappoint. For others, the storyline is very entertaining and also has much to laugh about. It’s still worth seeing, but if you want to see it in IMAX or Dolby Digital the local movie theater is the place to catch it while it’s still playing.
Final Comment: I based my grade on the continuous hysterical behaviors that keeps this
