When young men finally grow up to be adult men, some struggle with these next steps, marriage, having a baby, and fatherhood. Knowing that you will be responsible for another life scares many, especially a lot of the new dads. A new responsibility brings much anxiety and new found stress on many individuals, not to mention how the new mom feels, having to carry this incredible new living thing. This quest shows us how these types of new experiences can sometimes develop into something much scarier, but in reality, it is the most special event in their lives.
Two friends who have drifted apart are dealing with emotional circumstances that are now creating difficult struggles for them. One has lost his father and cannot leave therapy and the other is struggling with becoming a new dad. Rickey (Michael Angarano), still grieving from the death of his father, has fallen from the path he must take. Needing guidance he has joined group therapy, but after going for over a year, he has begun to interfere with the healing process of others. Meanwhile, Glenn (Michael Cera), who is struggling with becoming a new father, has begun to develop anxiety issues stressing out the mother to be Rosie (Kristen Stewart), Glenn’s pregnant wife.
These childhood friends after having a falling out sometime after high school, have gone in different directions, only seeing each other once a year. Formerly close when they were younger things changed as they grew apart. While Ricky was wanting to rekindle their friendships, convinces his once best friend to go for a drive, leading them into a mystery of fun. These two friends go on an adventure as they begin to find out many things about each other’s lives, since they last saw one another, discovering that what they needed most was each other. Along the way they meet some interesting characters, Tallie (Maya Erskine), Arielle (AJ Mendez), and Jess (Iman Karram).
Director and writer Michael Angarano (Actor) puts together a somewhat funny narrative that shows the bond between two friends on their way to finding themselves. Michael develops a tale that recovers a lost friendship, using a stretched truthful event from his character’s life to convince his once best friend to make this incredible journey of discovery. Including an excellent and believable presentation from the cast, helps Angarano’s story move along well. Stewart does a wonderful job playing the pregnant wife of Glenn, trying to deal with his growing anxiety problems as the due date comes closer. Both Michaels (Angarano and Cera) build on characters they are very familiar with and pull off an outstanding performance.
This fun film brings you on a quest for growth and realization, following these two individuals while they transform from childhood to adulthood. If you are looking for a good night out and yearning for a satisfactory wholesome motion picture, then this one could meet your expectations.
Final Comment: I based my grade on an enjoyable storyline with a wonderful rendition from the actors.
