‘Snow White’ Live Action Musical Spectacular

The first remake of the original animated film from 1937 mostly follows the same script from that era but expands on the earliest storyline and fills in the missing parts. This account is developed with a much more deeper meaning that truly explains the jealousy the Queen had for Snow White. Beginning with a brief history to the tale, that creates the premise of the characters bringing them down the path that sets up the fable we all know well and concluding it with a similar ending, but with a more realistic twist.

As you may already know the story is about a young princess Snow White (Rachel Zegler) that is hated by the Queen (Gal Gadot), her tyrannical stepmother, because Snow is the fairest of the land. The Queen is so fixated on being the fairest that she actually wants Snow to be disposed of and orders the huntsman (Ansu Kabia) to perform the duty. This part was performed comparable to the first and stayed mostly on track going forward. Eventually, she meets her friends and protectors that we all know and love. The fascinating addition was allowing the audience to see how the relationship between the Queen and Snow White became from the tragedies.

After her mother’s death and later her father’s death, Snow White is cared for by her Stepmother, the Queen. During her years being raised in the palace, Snow was given many chores to perform and was treated as a lowly cleaning maid. Here is where she developed a great sense of character despite all of the neglect she endured. She discovers her passion for kindness and the desire to help others when in need. She is so kind and sweet that the local forest animals feel safe around her and actually became her friend.

Director Marc Webb does a great job bringing the original animated film to life with the new live action feature that also includes fantastic makeup and excellent special effects. Expanding on the parable, by developing Snow White’s previous background with the death of her parents and adding that she is actually a princess, help everything flows much better. Also changing the Handsome prince to actually be a dashing rebel supporting her father’s teachings and beliefs, was an interesting approach. Webb went even further by showing Snow growing up and discovering the tragedies in her young life was a good addition to the actual plot. Lastly, the wonderful computer-generated Imagery (CGI) along with the outstanding makeup helped bring these loveable personalities to life. Making our childhood wonders become realized by seeing one of our loved films realistically materialize right in front of our eyes.

With the film following the same script and expanding on the initial narrative, by filling in the needed missing parts to paint a realistic picture, helps make this a must see at the local theater.  You will definitely enjoy your experience, and it may also be fun to view it in one of the other release types, such as IMAX, Dolby Digital, and other options offered at your local cinema.

Final Comment: I based my grade on the breathtaking music, the additions of extra dialogue, and the tremendous performance by the cast.
