‘Thunderbolts’ Is this the New Future?

With all of the changes going on in the Marvel Universe, including many of our heroes either retired, or not present, the show must go on. Trying to introduce new characters to take the reins has been interesting in recent years, but we may have found a group that might be able to carry the load. This introduction gives the world a chance to see what these interesting champions can do to keep peace on this planet.

A ragtag group of former villains and government agents turned into mercenaries controlled by the director, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) have entered into an unforeseen situation that has the agency scrambling to save their reputation. Led by a government task team, including now Senator, Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), with hopes of closing down the control that the CIA currently has on the country’s defense. This Marvel adventure includes a different type of heroes that must quickly change direction to defeat the most unlikely villain casting themselves into the spotlight as the next world saviors.

Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), former Red Room trained as a Black Widow assassin and adoptive sister of Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow, is feeling uneasy with the many mind-numbing missions she has to complete, day after day. Not feeling connected to anything she wants to try and figure out what she wants to do next. She visits her father Alexei Shostakov / Red Guardian, now running his own limo service to help survive after his career as a superhuman for the Russian government seems to have ended, in hopes of finding the answers she most desperately seeks, finds out that Alexei is going through his own problems.

When Yelena gets called on a mission that somehow seems very strange, it spirals her into an adventure that might point her career into a new direction. Her mission is to seek out and shutdown any information that will incriminate the CIA, eventually bringing her to the vault. Here is where she finds out that she has become a target of John Walker / U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), a former decorated United States Army Ranger Captain who was chosen to become Steve Rogers’s successor as Captain America in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier miniseries. While defending herself deep in the vault two other interesting characters appear, Antonia Dreykov / Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), appeared in Black Widow, and Ava Starr / Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), who was introduced in the film Ant-Man and the Wasp, to join the fight starting off a chain reaction that explodes on screen.

Establishing the story’s premise early in the feature helps Director Jake Schreier build an excellent journey in the Marvel universe. Jake developed a funny, entertaining, adventure that demonstrated outstanding computer-generated imagery (CGI) and fantastic special effects throughout the production. He continued by generating marvelous choreography with magnificent martial arts and intense fighting scenes. There was a wonderful performance from Flor Pugh who led the cast throughout the tale, including a hilarious rendition by David Harbour, along with a solid execution from the rest of the crew.

This well-done storyline includes many humorous situations, tremendous action, transparent, fast, strong, witty, and artistic warriors that bring this narrative forward into the future of this loveable universe. Definitely a remarkable opportunity to have a very entertaining night out watching this arrangement on the big screen in either Dolby Digital, IMAX, or even the standard version.

Final Comment: I based my grade on an amazing chronicle, a superb interpretation, and a first-rate presentation from the cast.
