When Andy from “Toy Story” saw his champion on the big screen for the first time he was so filled up with excitement about his new hero “Buzz Lightyear” that he just had to have the toy. This is the film that created the character that became the inspiration for the action figure.
Space Ranger Buzz Lightyear (Chris Evans) and Commanding Officer Alisha Hawthorne (Uzo Aduba) are exploring an uncharted planet in search of resources for their transport. When they discover that this planet is unstable, they try to escape only to become stranded. Feeling that this whole mishap is all his fault Buzz volunteers to test the new rocket that will save his people.
When things don’t seem to go right, Lightyear turns to a team of unlikely heroes; Sox (Peter Sohn), computer operated Cat, Cadets Izzy Hawthorne (Keke Palmer), Darby Steel (Dale Soules), and Mo Morrison (Taika Waititi). These heroes have to go up against Emperor Zurg (James Brolin) and his team of robots to save their people and the new planet they now call home.
Director and writer Angus MacLane does a spectacular job bringing the world of Buzz Lightyear to life. He created a storyline that develops the needed details to create this legendary character we have all known and loved since the first “Toy Story” came out in 1995. The animated special effects pull together a fantastic presentation that ties in a wonderful tale and develops into Lightyear’s best possible beginning narrative.
This full feature animation is a fun fair for all ages that will give your emotions a rollercoaster ride of pure entertainment, along with a presentation that will keep you wanting more. Finally, getting a great origin story for this famous character that appeals to everyone and appears to have it all; action, adventure, mystery, drama, and science fiction.
Final Comment: I based my grade on the outstanding storyline and remarkable animated special effects.
Stars 4 out of 5 stars.
