In this world of imagination, which includes wizards, witches, talking animals, and all sorts of different people, many wonderful things can happen. But with good, there can be evil, and it may show up in many different forms then we all expect. Can the majority make the few bad? Is it possible that what you are fighting for, even if it is the right thing to do, can actually be wrong when the masses have a strange point of view. This Outstanding rendition is based on the original Wonderful Wizard of Oz novel written by L. Frank Baum, Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West novel written by Gregory Maguire and also including the Broadway musical production of Wicked.
Starting with a flashback that explains the relationship between Glinda the Good Witch of the North and the Wicked Witch of the West, begins when they are both young. Being born under bad circumstances, young Elphaba Thropp (Karis Musongole), feels the neglect that her father, Frexspar Thropp (Andy Nyman), the Governor of Munchkinland, imposes on her and she honors his one wish to protect her younger sister Nessarose (Cesily Collette Taylor). As they grow up, Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), who is born with green skin and is misunderstood, does what she can to protect Nessarose (Marissa Bode), who is a paraplegic.
When Nessarose has a chance to go to the prestigious Shiz University, Elphaba unavoidably finds a way to get in as well and can continue to protect her sibling. Shiz University is an institution of higher education in the city of Shiz within the region of Gillikin, the northern province of Oz. While there the girls attend Crage Hall which is one of the four schools located at the University and houses only females. Here is where Elphaba meets Galinda Upland (Ariana Grande), a very popular young lady at the school. Forced to be roommates by Madame Morrible (Michelle Yeoh), the Headmistress of Shiz University, Galinda and Elphaba who are complete opposites must find a way to get along.
During their encounters at the prestigious university, they make friends with Boq Woodsman (Ethan Slater), a new student from Munchkinland, Fiyero Tigelaar (Jonathan Bailey), a winkie prince who is forced to go to Shiz as a last resort, and Doctor Dillamond (Peter Dinklage as the voice), a Goat History professor at the University. With the many connections Madame Morrible has, one is with the Wizard of Oz (Jeff Goldblum) and this relationship importance comes to play as events unfold.
This magnificent production of this old tale that has been watched by every child in this domain, was perfectly presented by director Jon M. Chu. His wonderful arrangement of the narrative, along with the impressive choreography, the incredible visual effects, the remarkable graphical presentation, and with the stunning musical journey that flows throughout the adventure, brings this legend alive. With John blending the talent along with the implementation of the musical content, it developed into an exceptional performance. Chu finished it all off by allowing his cast of brilliant singers to take us all away into a world of make believe, and also on voyage into their unknown truths.
One of the top pictures of the year, this delightfully portrayed, marvelously sung, realm of mysteriously detailed structures, and full of imagination, brings to us a complete entertaining demonstration. This film is definitely best seen on a motion picture screen with the best quality options, such as IMAX, and Dolby Digital.
Final Comment: I based my grade on a spectacular recreation of this amazing storyline along with the fantastic performance from the cast.
