‘Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga’ her Origin Story

As the world began to change and dramatic storms ravaged the lands, what was still good for the people was hidden from those who would destroy it. Protecting what was needed for survival was sometimes controlled by strong evil forces that prevented the masses from accessing their basic needs unless they committed their lives to these commanders. Water, Gasoline, and Ammunition is controlled and traded between these warlords. Anything that would break these bonds between these malicious leaders would cause all-out war between the clans.

As we know from Mad Max Fury Road, Furiosa (Anya Taylor-Joy), is a fierce individual who will protect those in need. She will also guard the location she was from and what she referred to as the Green Place, a luscious beautiful garden that had everything her people needed. As the story begins it starts off with young Furiosa (Alyla Browne), a child searching for food like the other children. She decides to better herself and begins exploring and enjoying this great world she belongs to. While belonging to such a great home you wonder how she even became the hero we all know from the previous adventure.

When she is discovered and was taken from this domain, Mary Jo Bassa (Charlee Fraser), Furiosa’s mother, tries to track her down and somehow rescue her from these wicked men. While on the trail of Furiosa’s abductors, Mary learns who the superior of this gang is, Dementus (Chris Hemsworth), a warlord leader of the Biker Horde and selfish mongrel who wants everything for himself. The trail becomes a hard road for Mary and time moves on.

On the other realm of the spectrum, there are the wild controllers of the country’s supplies. Our villains from Fury Road now appear and we see what they all now control. Not just the water, but the gasoline, and ammunition. The Citadel as we know is led by Immortan Joe (Lachy Hulme), along with his two sons, Rictus Erectus (Nathan Jones), Joe’s muscular but dim-witted son, and Scabrous Scrotus (Josh Helman), Joe’s intellectually disabled youngest son, together they rule the wastelands of Australia. Operating all the land’s resources, with help from the People Eater (John Howard), an ally of Joe’s who formerly controlled the fuel reserves of Gas Town and the Organic Mechanic (Angus Sampson), Joe’s personal physician, they seem to have everything under their command.

Director and writer George Miller infuses the amazing prequel to Fury Road that describes the origin of Furiosa, our amazon hero that can conquer everything. From the start he gave us what we wanted from the original storyline, to know what the Green Place was like. The place that was described by Furiosa herself is finally displayed in this film and shows its beauty. But, this is not the only goal George was set out to do, he also needed to give us how little Furiosa became this ferocious warrior.

The visual effects helped develop the narrative and display the events we saw on the big screen. This installment did appear to have more graphics created with CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) than the previous, but still brought the film to life. The performance by the cast was outstanding and worth seeing on the silver screen, especially in the IMAX format. Definitely, a fitting beginning to a great protagonist, she gives us a journey that places us on a rollercoaster full of excitement and an adventure that is truly to die for.

Final Comment: I based my grade on the fantastic storyline, the wonderful action scenes, and great performance.
